Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house.  They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”

Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing.  Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”

“Get out of our way,” they replied. And they said, “This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

But the men inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness so that they could not find the door (Gen 19).

It is safe to say that we are living in Sodom.  Sex. Sex. Sex.  Everywhere you turn in our
society it seems we run right smack into sex!  From sexy ads on TV, which sexualize
everything from candy-bars to hamburgers to scantily clad starlets like Paris Hilton; it seems that sex is everywhere!  I am personally weary of it!  I don’t have to tell you that we live in a sexually charged culture. It seems Americans can’t get enough sex!

Just the other day I was standing in line at the grocery store and was offended to see a magazine cover with Nicole Kiddman flashing on the front.  She was holding her blouse open which sexily exposed her bra.  If I walked down the street doing that I would be arrested, but it’s OK for Nicole Kidman do it; and all in name of fashion? Give me a break!

Everyday we are inundated with pictures, commercials, movies etc that glamorize promiscuity, indecency and immorality.  I don’t have to go on and on with examples, because you know exactly to what I am referring!

It used to be that one could feel relatively safe in there own homes from perverts that seek to prey on our children.  However, the perverts are getting bolder and bolder.  I recently heard a story on a national news program of a father who awoke in the night to a foul smell in the house.  He stumbled into his children’s room only to find an intruder hiding behind the door!  The father tackled the man in the front lawn when the intruded tried to escape.  Later the man was with attempted sex offenses.  And we all remember how Elizabeth Smart was abducted out of her own bedroom and held hostage for several months by her captors!

I am not trying to alarm you; I am merely seeking to show how bold criminals have gotten in recent years.  It reminds me of the verse from Genesis 19 and how bold the men of Sodom were that they surrounded Lot’s house and demanded he send the visitors out so they could have sex with them(cited at the beginning of this post).  Sodom was such a horrible place that God destroyed it!  Perhaps God will destroy our land, but it seems that we are self-destructing.

The only way I can have peace about our world and culture is to wash my mind with God’s Word and the purity that God brings to our lives.  He wants to protect us from the evils of this world and that is why he demands holiness and purity from us!  I encourage you to meditate on his Word daily as a way to combat the sickness that plagues our society!  Guard your hearts and minds and seek the Lord in all you do!  Thanks for reading!

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Phip. 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Proverbs 4:23-27 Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.  Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.  Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
