Well if you haven’t see the recent photo shoot of Miley Cyrus for Vanity Fair, you might think you are viewing some sort of soft porn. (Miley has stated that she is “so embarrassed” over the photos, but she posed for them, so initially she wasn’t embarrassed.) She is now aplogizing for the photos; but that’s only because the pictures didn’t get the response she was hoping for. I personally have been waiting for Miley and her management to start making the transition from innocent child star to trashy sex symbol.

This is all too familiar, isn’t it? Do the names Brittney Spears, Lindsay Lohan or Jamie Lynn Spears ring a bell? I am very thankful that my daughter has lost interest in Miley. At first I allowed her to watch Hannah Montanna, but after awhile I suspected that Miley might go the way of Brittney or Lohan. If Miley Cyrus wants to stay relevant, she almost has to make the transition to a more “grown up” version of Hannah Montana…and of course she’ll have to add some sex appeal. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want my daughter being pulled into this downward spiral along with Miley. I know, as usual, I sound cynical. To be honest, I hope Miley Cyrus can stay out of trouble and walk the straight and narrow. But from the looks of it, I think the days of innocence are long gone for Hannah Montanna fans.

**At the risk of sounding too hard on Miley Cyrus…I have re-thought this (slightly).  I am still skeptical about the whole situation.  And I am not saying that Miley is going to become a drug addict or alcoholic.  BUT, I do know that as Miley matures, she will have to make a transition from little girl to mature woman.  And in our society that transition usually involves “sexing up” young women before they are ready and in turn exposing their young fans to that sexual image.  Brittney, Lindsay and others have all made the transition and it almost never goes over well.  I am aware the Miley’s parent’s are closely involved in her life and claim to be Christians.  I however, will remain suspicious of this situation.  I guess my main question in this situation is that Miley’s parents should have known that Annie Leibovits has a rep for being very edgy and taking borderline porn-like pictures.  I, as a parent, would not let a woman like that take even one photo of my child, no matter how “artsy” the photographer is.  Yes, I understand that her parents just happened to leave just prior to the risky pics being shot, and Annie may have taken advantage of the situation.  Reportedly, Miley herself said that the photo (to her) looked artistic and natural.  Hmmmm….just my two cents.
